Catch the Colorful “Anilag” Festival in Laguna

When I heard that the “Anilag” Festival is going to be held this week, I decided to pay a visit to my home province. For several years now, I’ve never missed an opportunity to catch this colorful event, where the different towns of Laguna come together to showcase their products.
“Anilag” stands for “Ani ng Laguna” (Harvest of Laguna). Here, you will see the products or specialties that each town in the province is famous for: shoes from Liliw, Barong Tagalog from Lumban, wooden handicrafts from Paete, and many other items. All of these are featured in magnificent stalls where visitors can take pictures as souvenirs.
The week-long festival will include a variety of events: a fluvial parade, a job fair, and a pyromusical show, to name a few. It will also hold several pageants, including a search for the “Pinakamagandang Lola ng Laguna” (Most Beautiful Grandma of Laguna), and “Ginoo at Binibini ng Laguna” (Mr. and Ms. Laguna).
What’s more, the festival will conduct exciting competitions: landscaping, body building, drum and lyre, culinary arts, street dancing, embroidery, paralympics, and more. Here, you will see the most talented people in Laguna as they compete and strive to make their hometowns proud.
This year’s festival will be held from March 6 to 11, 2017 at the Provincial Capitol in Sta. Cruz, Laguna. Coming from Manila, it will only take you two to three hours to get there. The Anilag Festival happens only once a year, so now is your chance to see it. I know I will!
